Questionnaire Responses

Ken Cavanaugh

We reached out to just about every candidate that we ranked with a questionnaire specific to the office they are running for. Here are the answers Mr. Ken Cavanaugh provided.

Mr. Ken Cavanaugh is a Libertarian. He's running to represent Nevada's 1st Congressional District.

Tell us about your background. What are your qualifications for this position?

I have studied our Constitution and both Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers. From those, I feel I have a good understanding of what the Founders intended. I consider myself to be a Strict Constitutionalist. I have run for US House in the past (2000 - 13th CD PA), and have experience debating any and all Federal issues. My concept is to return America to her Constitution, then fix what we now see and know to be wrong with it.

Do you agree or disagree with the measures taken by state officials in response to the COVID-19 pandemic? What do you think should have been done or done differently?

I completely disagree, not only with State officials, but Federal as well. In a free country, NO ONE should be coerced into wearing a mask, or forced to accept a vaccine. I would have done that which is all our government ought to have done. receive the recommendations from the CDC, then share those with The People, as recommendations ONLY. We are adults, and can make our own choices when it comes to health.

Many voters are unhappy with our public school system. What policies or actions would you prescribe to repair or replace the existing system? Do you support “school choice” policies such as educational savings accounts? Why or why not?

I support far more than school choice policies. It would be my goal to place the parents in charge of ANY school to which they send their children. To even include the curriculum itself. Let the parents choose what courses they want their children to learn. Whatever lesser steps have to be taken to arrive there is moving in the right direction.

Please briefly describe your political philosophy. What are your guiding principles?

I am a libertarian. My guiding principles are to remove any and all authoritarian edicts from our daily lives, allowing us to Pursue our own Happiness in the manner of our own choosing. Let us make our own mistakes, and learn from them, instead of a heavy handed overbearing government telling us what we can or cannot do.

Many voters are concerned about inflation and its impact. What could be done at the state or national level to address the root causes of inflation or mitigate its impact on the public?

This cannot be answered in short form. The Federal Reserve needs to be closed, our 14th Amendment must be repealed, and recent printing of currency has to be reversed. The National Debt must be capped by The People, which is where the 14th A comes in. I like a policy where our National Debt cannot ever be more than 3-5 years worth of GDP. 3 years in peacetime, and 5 years during a formally declared war (those numbers are not set in concrete, thus negotiable, an idea which requires debate).

What would be your top priorities in Congress? What issues are most important to you, and what issues do you believe are politically achievable in the near term?

I have but one goal in Congress, to repeal as much existing Freedom-hampering legislation as possible. The US Govt is designed to be our International Liaison, ONLY. I intend to return it to that objective only, keeping America away from this every 4 year shift in how to live our lives by the next 'elected' Dictator. The most achievable, believe it or not, is to repeal the Controlled Substance act of 1973. It is unConstitutional, and SCOTUS is made up of strict Constitutionalists at this time.

Please describe your views on foreign policy, specifically with regards to the Middle East, Russia, and China. What role should the United States play in world affairs?

I echo our Founders on this one. The US should trade with countries it approves of, and ONLY those it approves of. We were intended to be a peaceful, trading nation only. The US was founded all about Commerce. So, that's what I want as well. Commerce. International trade with peaceful nations. The US has to iron out its power mongering differences with our nations. It will take decades to smooth things out with the World, but we have to start. NO MORE FOREIGN MILITARY DEPLOYMENTS (without a formal declaration of war)!
