Questionnaire Responses

Joey Paulos

We reached out to just about every candidate that we ranked with a questionnaire specific to the office they are running for. Here are the answers Mr. Paulos provided.

Mr. Paulos is a Republican. He's running to represent Nevada's 8th Senate District.

Tell us about your background. What are your qualifications for this position?

I was born and raised right here in Southern NV; I graduated from Bonanza HS and earned my BS in Hospitality from UNLV. I spent 15 years as a gaming executive and the last 17 as an entrepreneur owning and operating various small businesses. My most recent project was the development and management of the FlyLinq Zipline. I believe my background and experience is best suited to help put Nevada back on the right track.

Do you agree or disagree with the measures taken by state officials in response to the COVID-19 pandemic? What do you think should have been done or done differently?

I largely disagree with the how COVID-19 crisis and response was handled. I was against the closures of the economy, schools, and all mandates. Kids were not vectors for COVID and should have never been locked out of schools. The unintended consequences from this drastic mistakes will be felt for years to come. What we should have done was protect the most vulnerable and the rest of us should have went about our daily lives and if we got sick stayed home as we would do if infected with the flu or a similar disease.

Many voters are unhappy with our public school system. What policies or actions would you prescribe to repair or replace the existing system? Do you support “school choice” policies such as educational savings accounts? Why or why not?

The school system is broken and not working for our kids. I am for breaking up the monopolistic bureaucracy of CCSD as well as creating educational freedom with ESAs and unfettered school choice.

Please briefly describe your political philosophy. What are your guiding principles?

I am an independent minded critical thinker, who’s loyal to principles, not a party or an ideology. I will always stand for the truth and never compromise my values for votes. If elected I will bring common sense solutions, moral clarity, and an unflinching dedication to the truth. I know who I am, and people can see what I have accomplished. I don’t need or care about titles. I’m not running to be somebody I’m running to do something.

Many voters are concerned about inflation and its impact. What could be done at the state or national level to address the root causes of inflation or mitigate its impact on the public?

The unfortunate reality is, there’s not much we can do to combat inflation at the state level. The change has got to come from the federal government. Printing & pumping trillions into the economy while there are supply chain issues and a shortage of consumer goods is exactly what created this problem. There are however, a few things the state legislature can do to help with, and ease the burden, on the increased cost side of things. And as your representative that’s what I’m going to focus on; where I can affect change & help our community the most.

  • We can combat rising prices by eliminating or minimizing regulations on small businesses. That will drive economic growth, and reduce costs for business owners, workers, and consumers.
  • We can fight to keep taxes low and initiate tax reform - looking at gas, property, and other local taxes, allowing us to keep more of our paychecks.
  • We can increase the housing supply. More supply brings down costs across the board.
  • We can attract new businesses and industries to the state, creating jobs, and help to get people back to work.
What would be your top priorities in the Nevada state legislature?
  • Easing the burden of rising costs.
  • Fixing our K-12 education system.
  • Address the rising crime rate.
  • Reign in Government overreach of the executive branch.
  • Diversity the economy, attract more businesses and industries to the state.
Who or what are the largest political special interests in Nevada, and which of these do you see as having a positive or negative influence?
  • The Gaming industry and as a whole I believe they are a net positive in our community.
  • Public sector unions and as a whole I believe they have a net negative impact on our community.
  • Construction industry and I believe their influence and impact is net positive.
